FAQs
What is Tallow?
Tallow comes from animal fat, typically suet (soo-uht), which is the nutrient dense fat around the organs, that has been rendered down to remove impurities and create a solid fatty gold. We source our suet from grass-fed cattle, giving 4x as many nutrients as grain fed. The process of rendering involves gently heating the suet to separate the fat from any remaining muscle or connective tissue. We then strain the liquid, let it cool and render the fat again, we repeat that process at least 5 times. The result is a pure fat that once cooled, has no beefy scent and is solid at room temperature which is what we can then call tallow.
Why use Tallow?
Tallow holds nearly an identical biological make up as our skin, so close that the Latin root of Sebum (natural oils in our skin) is Tallow. It has been used in skincare for over 2,000 years and was the main ingredient in skincare products like creams, candles, soaps and salves before the industry cared more about wealth than health. Now pumping our products with harmful additives and fillers, the stores cant seem to get a grip on real, clean, pure skincare.
Tallow contains nutrient levels you cant find in any skincare products sold by big companies. Containing high levels of vitamins A, D, E, K2 and B12, our Tallow provides everlasting benefits, promoting cell regeneration, fighting free radials (fine lines and wrinkles) and reducing inflammation while locking in nutrients and preventing moisture loss. Tallow is extremely anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and is loaded with anti-microbial properties making it the most nutrient dense, pure formula our ancestors have used for centuries. It is 100% free of toxic chemicals and synthetic additives, yet full of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and other acids naturally found in our skin, that contain omega-3, 6, 7, and 9s. As these acids in our skin decrease in age, it is important to get those nutrients back in the system to promote healthy, youthful, hydrated skin forever!
How is Tallow sustainable?
Tallow is a very sustainable product as it is often seen as a byproduct in the meat industry meaning it utilizes parts that would once go to waste. We connect with local regenerative farms, which raise cattle on grass filled pastures, promoting soil health and biodiversity without pesticides or fertilizers. We absolutely do not support factory farming and unhappy cows. We are here to work with the earth and not against it, thus why we do not use any synthetic ingredients, reducing the need for petrochemical-based products, which have a high environmental impact. Sourcing our tallow local also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation and supports local sustainable agricultural practices.
Is Tallow Vegan?
No. Tallow is 100% not vegan. However, our tallow is 100% grass fed, meaning the cows were 100% vegan.... Make sense? We choose to meticulously source our tallow from ethically raised cattle, that have lived happy, healthy lives. We do not support factory farming or the use of synthetic pesticides, hormones or antibiotics. Therefore the cows were raised on a vegan diet, but the tallow is not vegan.
